we are what we repeatatedly do

In my recent posts I talked of my new years resolutions and goals. When December came to a finish I had such high ambitions on how to tackle these goals. When January rolled around I was hit by the flu and my body has been fighting to be back to 100%. I have felt disappointed in myself that I could not accomplish my goals.It has been a task to just make it through each day at work with my energy level. Now that my body is finally healing, I of course want to get back to accomplishing my goals, but this time I know I will have to find a new approach.
I know that part of the reason I have felt so overwhelmed is being sick, but I also quickly realized that I was trying to take on too much at one time. Both my mind and my body felt tired. I see now that although I have the desire to dive head first into ALL my resolutions, I need to break them down separately.
I spent some time researching habits. How long does it take to make or break a habit? Ideas to help form new habits. Tips on keeping strong while forming a new habit. Here are the most common suggestions I found:

* commit to 30 days

* make it daily for those 30 days

* start simple

* get a buddy

* find your trigger, form a new trigger

* be imperfect

* remove temptation

* associate with role models

* visualize doing well

* write it down

* do it for yourself

* reward yourself

* get positive feedback

Now, the really hard part for me is deciding which resolution to focus on first. This is why I had previously decided to start them ALL! 😉 Each goal is individually so important to me. But, if I don’t have the energy to achieve my goals, I will not have success. So, I have decided my first focus will be on my energy level. I need to go to bed earlier, which will help me with my goal of waking up earlier. We all know getting the appropriate amount of sleep is so important to our health, yet it is neglected so easily with our busy lives. I need to eat healthier. I’m interested in losing a few pounds but my main focus is energy. I want to fuel my body. And yes, as cliché as it is, I want to focus on forming a routine at the gym. It becomes so easy to hibernate in the winter months but I always feel so much energy once I get into a routine at the gym. The next 30 days will be focused on these things. I will let you know in a month what helped me and what did not! Wish me luck!!

Do you ever feel like just leaning back in your chair and hitting the refresh button on your life? That is exactly how I feel lately. I just feel I work best when I have a fresh white canvas to work with. I know that life doesn’t work exactly like that, but we can tweak around with what we can to make ourselves feel refreshed!

I hate when things begin to feel too cluttered. It makes me have a claustrophobic feeling inside. Instead of really cleaning out our apartment and getting rid of things not needed, I have just pushed and shoved things into “junk drawers” (which always comes back to haunt you). I would like to start by cleaning out our apartment and going through what we don’t need. Donating it, selling it, throwing it away, this will be a big project for us! My husband and I both enjoy collecting things 🙂

My next refreshing project will be to get back on track with health and exercise. It’s easy to be content with a loving husband always telling you that you look beautiful. That is, until the day comes that you try to put on your skinny jeans and they no longer fit! My friend and I have decided to wake up early this Monday morning to go running before work and before the torturous heat sets in. I’ve also decided to start a cleanse. I want to rid my body of toxins and prepare to start a healthier diet. Goodbye my beloved fast food, I shall miss you!!

If you have been following my blog, you will know that my husband and I have been facing some financial problems here lately. We have spent many nights coming up with a plan of action and ways we can save money. We have decided to say buh-bye to our cable (after True Blood is over ;)) and spend more time together cooking, playing board games, and reading. I really like this idea. I hate to admit this, but I am quite the television addict. I love movies and silly t.v. I think this will be a nice sacrifice for us in the end.

Last, but not least, I would like to make it a goal to start going to church every Sunday. I usually make excuses because I would really like to go with my husband and he usually works. But, my heart yearns to go and I know that God wants me there. I am excited to go on a deeper spiritual journey.

Well, here goes nothing! ::::Refresh::::

Just Do It.

I’ve already lost five pounds of my ten pound goal but now I’ve sort of plateaued. I have been watching what I’ve been eating {for the most part} but I know the missing link has been: excercise. I’ve been making excuses about the weather, being tired after work, or even that a favorite television show comes on that night. I know that if I want to see results, I have to stop making excuses and just do it!

I used to run almost every day a couple of years ago. It was a goal of mine to run the Tulsa Run 15k. I stopped after a neck injury. It’s been hard getting back to where I used to be or not wanting to just say “fuh-get it!”. I do miss the feeling of  peace that comes with running, once you get past the side cramps and nauseous feeling at first. 😉 I won’t deny that I run to stay in shape, but I also enjoy running because it gives me a kind of self-confidence that I can conquer anything!

Today marks the beginning of my marathon. Rain or shine, tired or not, I am making tomorrow today!

See ya at the finish line!!

Godiva Dreams

Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake

Since getting married in July, I have gained about ten pounds. Bummer. So, I have recently started a diet. Because of this diet, my dreams are beginning to take a turn on the ‘flavorful’ side. Last night I dreamt of the delicious, rich, melts in your mouth, Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake. MMMMM!!! DO NOT PUT THIS IN FRONT OF ME RIGHT NOW!!  ……Moving on. Before I started my diet, my husband and I went to eat BBQ at Famous Daves. Have you ever tried their cornbread? To die for! I am a huge fan of sweet cornbread. You have to try it! It was fun somewhat gorging ourselves before the big day 🙂

serious about our food!

 Nice eh? So, I guess it is back to healthy choices now even though my tastes buds are still in denial. Well, you know what? You can take away my carbs but you can never take away my Godiva dreams!! 😉
